Life Mission Groups

If you are a Christian, you were born again into a life mission God has generally and specifically designed for you. Generally, you are a part of the larger mission to make disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:19-20), and to reach the nations for King Jesus (Luke 24:47). Specifically, you have been gifted by the Holy Spirit with supernatural skills, talents, burdens, and vision which you alone can bring to the mission. When we come together, we pool the gifts God has given us specifically for the mission in general, and the results range anywhere from interesting to spectacular.  The job of local church leaders, therefore, is simply to equip Christians to do the work of the ministry, so that everyone is working together as one body (Eph. 4:11-16).

Life Mission Groups are primary tool of Church in the Boro designed to bring these biblical values and dynamics together.  Each Group is a twelve-week focused small group which meets on the same night each week.  The Group leader may choose any night of the week to meet.

Each group consists of no more than sixteen people, is focused on a particular topic necessary to the furthering of our mission, and implements that focus in some service project introduced by the leader on the first week.

The first week of a Life Mission Group centers on meeting, greeting, and introducing the focus study as well as the service project.  Two of the twelve weeks are spent simply gathering together as families for fun and food.  The last week is spent implementing the service project together.  This leaves eight weeks for a study of the focus topic.

Children ages twelve and up are invited to attend, unless parental opinion determines otherwise.  Childcare is available each week as families work out schedules between themselves to serve each other.  For example, a family attending a Life Mission Group on a Tuesday night may serve a family attending on a Thursday night by keeping their children for them.  We ask each family, therefore, to set aside two nights during the week for Life Mission Groups: one for attending, and one for serving another family with children.  We value biblical koinonia and believe this is an excellent reflection of true fellowship.

Life Mission Groups are designed to be the most crucial meeting for a member of Church in the Boro outside Sunday morning.  It is the means by which we more fully engage each other in the mission by both growing ourselves, and absorbing others into the kingdom of God.
