Prophecy 101
The promised Holy Spirit came with an outpouring of the gift of prophesy, which has long been considered perhaps the greatest and most precious gift ever given to the New Testament church. With the presence of the Holy Spirit comes His voice, His help, His counsel, encouragement, exhortation, and comfort. Do you know what this sounds like? Have you ever heard Him speak before? Would you know it if you heard Him?
These are some of the most basic questions which must be answered in order to enjoy and benefit from this amazing gift of God to His people. The prophet Joel prophesied several hundred years before Pentecost that the Spirit would be poured out on all kinds of people, young and old, male and female, rich and poor, slave and free. That outpouring was said to chiefly involve prophecy. On Pentecost, about fifty days after Jesus rose from the dead, that promise was fulfilled. The Holy Spirit was poured out, and God's people received and immediately utilized the gift of prophecy.
In 1 Corinthians 14:3 we read that the gift of prophecy is for building others up, encouraging others, and comforting others. We believe that not only is this the biblical anchor for any and all prophetic words, but that they also provide a trajectory for amazing, beneficial, and clear things God wishes to say to His people. The Prophecy 101 Weekend in the Word is our attempt at Church in the Boro to rediscover these things afresh together. Following is the schedule and resources used for the weekend.
