Our City (Statesboro)
A Vision for Statesboro
Statesboro is a very unique city. Not quite southern or rural, not quite city or urban, but more of a southern, suburbuan college town. Industry and retail business and one of the fastest growing and most successful universities in the country, Georgia Southern University, are booming our economy and culture.
Statesboro was chartered in 1803, just over 25 years after our country established her freedom. Over the last two centuries, Statesboro has seen significant changes to its industry, business, agriculture, government, culture, education system, housing development and road construction. In 2002, Bulloch County had the statistic of having more churches per square mile than any other county in Georgia. With nearly 70,000 people living in Bulloch County, there are almost 125 churches! Most of these churches have less than 150 members.
In 2007, we as a community of believers (about 12 then) considered whether God wanted another believing community in Statesboro. It was clear from God that he did, and in August 2008 Church in the Boro became an official church plant.
For over three years now we have had the vision of seeing God restore the church in America and restore the City of Statesboro with the Kingdom of God through His Son Jesus Christ. We are partnered with New Frontiers to see churches planted in the top 100 cities in the country.
Pastor Rob Wilkerson had a vision that 10 churches would be planted out of ours in 20 years. That's a big goal and a big vision. But we believe in a big God!
We have a BIG vision for this city: to see sinners reconciled to God, people reconciled to each other and the world reconciled to King Jesus. We want that vision to permeate every facet of daily life in Statesboro from business to personal, religious to eductational, entertainment to leisure, culture to socioeconomic, community to individuals, inter-church relations to social justice. God desires to see people experience His power and grace in real ways.
Bringing this vision to Statesboro will inevitably bring the Kingdom of God. We want to see the power and grace of God's kingdom come to the people of Statesboro in such real ways that they worship the Father and believe in His Son and live for the mission.
We pray you will consider partnering with us to fullfil this mission and vision to see people come to Jesus locally, regionally, nationally and globally.
